Death. When I hear about somebody that I know who has passed away, a million thoughts and feelings go through my mind. I met Matt Lackey at Daybreaker in Boulder last year and he was a shimmering sparkle on the dance floor, marching around with a sign of love and encouragement. He was opening up a restaurant right up the street from my office in RiNo and we had talked about being neighbors in business and how wonderful it is to be doing what we love. I saw him last month and we exchanged a hug and quick conversation. I’ve only met him a few times and he had an energy that was so warm and full of light.

I’ve been tossing and turning all night long thinking about / praying for his family and friends and the people that he made an impact on in his short yet purposeful driven life. In times like this, I find peace in believing that there is a God, that there is Heaven and that there is something even greater than we could ever imagine waiting for us when it is time for our bodies to leave this earth. There is peace in faith.

To me it is more than just believing in those things but truly believing with all my heart, body and soul and practicing what I believe and staying close to God. It is true that we never know when our time here on earth is up and that we need to live every day to the fullest, loving fearlessly, keeping our family and friends close and having faith in the unknown.

My heart goes out to Matt, his family and all those near him. Rest in love and adventure in Heaven shining down on us. May we see your sparkle knowing that you have just danced past us.
